I got LASIK!!!!!!!!! I'd like to give a forewarning to any of you with weak stomachs...the following content may be unsettling. I have prayed and longed for this day for a long time. Finally the time came that David and I agreed we could swing it and we would schedule the surgery. (God miraculously provided for us to do this...he is SO GOOD!) I took Friday off of work last week for the surgery. David's mom drove me (poor thing, she had to wait for 3 hours!) After a series of prepratory meetings, inspections and instructions I went to a room where there was a semicircle of recliners. There I was "suited up" for the operation (notice the glasses b/c that's the last picture of me needing to wear them!)
After a long wait I was finally called in. They (2 nurses) had me lay on the chair completely reclined to a horizontal position and gave me a stress balls for each hand. After the nurses put numbing drops in my eyes, the surgeon came in and began his work. He put clamps (that felt like rings of some sort) on my eyes. After that they told me I would feel pressure but note pain. They were right! The pressure was so intense (I think they were holding the eyeball still). This is where the stress balls come in: he swung my chair over to the laser machine that cuts a flap in your cornea. Everything went black for a moment (but that was normal). It took about 45 seconds and the nurses count down and encouraged me the whole time. Flap complete. They took the eyeball holder off (which relieved the pressure) and the doctor flipped open the flap. He then swung my chair back over the another laser, the one that corrected my vision. I had to look at a flashing light the whole time and it was very difficult to keep steady. About 45 seconds later (again the countdown) my left eye was done. The doctor put the flap back in place and with what looked like a paint brush he smoothed it out. Repeat for the right eye. The whole procedure took about 5 minutes. They took the clamps off and released me. Immediately I could see! It was hazy, like if you had just stepped out of a very steamy shower...but I could see!! They gave me sunglasses and had me sit in a room for about 20 minutes with my eyes closed. It hurt. My eyes were watering and very irritated. The ride home was rough. Even with sunglasses and an overcast sky my eyes were ultra sensitive to the light. The seditive they gave me began to kick in and I fell fast asleep wearing the goggles they gave me. Around 7:30 that night David woke me up and I felt great! I could see! We even entertained company that night! I can't wear make up for a week. Here I am in all my natural beauty:
It truly is a miracle of God. He provided the money and the technology and now I can see! I am so blessed! |
